Domestic Violence Intervention Program The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office, through the assistance of the County Legislature and aggressive grant research, has added a Domestic Violence Intervention Officer to the Detective Division. Det. Nathan Root is appointed to this position and has been working to assist both victims and perpetrators of domestic violence. Victims are assisted with their trip through the criminal justice system, and are referred to various agencies for further assistance regarding family court, alcohol and substance abuse counseling, victim's rights groups, and other needs of the victim. Perpetrators are tracked through the criminal justice system or the family court system. Information is provided to them regarding counseling and other issues. Through the cooperation of local criminal court justices, counseling centers, the District Attorney's Office, and local victim's rights groups, the Sheriff's Office is taking strides to reduce the instances of domestic violence and provide organized assistance to the victim's of domestic violence. |
